Pregnancy Massage Australia provides a range of courses that give you the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence you need to apply therapeutic massage to your pregnant clients. A list of current available courses is provided below.

INTRODUCTION TO PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Pregnancy is a very special time in a woman’s life. Many physiological changes occur to her body during the three trimesters. Understanding these changes will help you to determine the outcome of your treatment. It will give you the confidence and guidance to apply appropriate pregnancy massage to your clients. This course is suitable for beauty therapists and spa therapists. This can be delivered to day spa staff to assist with pregnancy massage treatments. A signature-style massage can be designed for your ‘Day Spa’ to meet the growing demands of the ‘Baby Mooners’.

Course Outline
• Introduction to pregnancy massage.
• Learn how to apply a full body pregnancy massage that focusses on relaxation techniques.
• Introduction to the physiological changes to a woman’s body during the first, second and third trimesters.
• Endangerment sites.
• Lying positions appropriate for pregnancy.
• Draping / client comfort.
• Massage techniques.

As women have the choice of remaining at work during their
pregnancy they are finding the need to nurture and care for
themselves through this important time. Massage helps to gain
this balance, as well as heighten the mother-baby connection.

Course Details
• Seminar times are 9am to 5pm.
• Course is suitable for beauty therapists and day spa staff, however all massage therapists are welcome to do this one day course.
• Also suitable for midwives who have a knowledge of massage.
• Comprehensive seminar notes will be provided at the commencement of the seminar.
• Morning & afternoon teas provided.
• Further information (parking, accommodation, lunch venues etc) will be sent on receipt of payment.
• A 15% fee will be incurred on all cancellations.

Complete the NurtureLife® Pregnancy Massage Practitioners five day course which includes the Certificate of Pregnancy Massage course.

Option 2 – Separate Courses
Complete the Certificate of Pregnancy Massage two day course.
Then at any time, follow on to complete the NurtureLife® Pregnancy Massage Practitioner UPGRADE three day course.



CERTIFICATE OF PREGNANCY MASSAGE 

Discover the benefits of massage during pregnancy through our Certificate of Pregnancy Massage. Pregnancy is a very special time in a woman’s life which creates significant physiological, structural, and psychological changes. Understanding these changes will help you, the massage therapist, to determine the outcome of your treatment.

The certificate wilI give you the confidence and guidance to apply appropriate therapeutic massage to your pregnant client. During the course you will study the gentle application of massage for pregnant women, and the appropriate techniques and style of application suitable for each trimester. You will discover how beneficial massage is before, during and after labour.

Course Details
Day 1 explores the many benefits of massage during pregnancy
You will learn techniques and gain the confidence to massage and treat pregnant clients.
• Introduction to the physiological changes during pregnancy
• Body changes, and the effects on various bodily systems
• Joints and muscles affected during pregnancy
• Contraindications for massage during pregnancy
• Endangerment sites
• Massage goals and treatment
• Review of the three trimesters, including lying positions appropriate for pregnancy through each trimester
• Draping – client comfort and privacy
• Massage techniques appropriate during pregnancy
• Full body massage demonstrated

Day 2 will advance your massage skills to treat specific musculoskeletal conditions which pregnant clients will present with.
• Massage treatment and assessment of client
• Advanced massage techniques during pregnancy –
considering appropriate application for each trimester.
- Lumbar spine treatment
- Piriformis release and treatment
- Gluteal release and treatment
- Thoracic release and treatment of auxiliary breathing muscles
- Abdominal massage
- Treatment for cramping and restless leg syndrome

General Information

• Course is suitable for Massage Therapists (Cert IV & Diploma), Myotherapists, Naturopaths, Osteopaths and Acupuncturists.

The NurtureLife® Pregnancy Massage Practitioner course will give you unique skills and confidence to specialise in perinatal massage. Developing further your knowledge and skills, we will explore in greater detail the three trimesters and the development of the foetus. We will focus on mother-baby connection, creating a greater awareness in our treatment.

We will explore the emotive feelings towards pregnancy and birth, and learn massage techniques to enhance a positive, nurturing healthy pregnancy and birth.

Postpartum is a time for mother-baby connection to develop; the mother needs to nurture herself as she nurtures and enjoys her baby – we will explore massage in the postpartum and its many benefits.

We will advance your current skills in pregnancy massage, with more detailed techniques and approaches explored. It includes some relaxation techniques, energy approaches including visualisation, as well as advanced massage therapy and some simple exercises.

We will explore through a holistic approach that pregnancy is a state of health and a journey into motherhood. We will learn treatment for both the mother and baby’s wellbeing.

NurtureLife® Pregnancy Massage Practitioner course aims to advance your knowledge and skills, including orthopaedic assessment and the adaption of these skills, through each trimester. You will explore simple massage techniques for use in labour, active partner training, and postnatal massage so you can create a unique NurtureLife® experience for your clients.

We will consolidate your understanding of the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, particularly in relation to massage and exercise. We will review conditions unique to pregnancy and how to treat each of these conditions in the different trimesters.

We will explore our emotive feelings towards pregnancy, labour and beyond so you can apply practical tools for self-development that support massage therapists. You will learn how to adapt your treatment to suit the individual needs of your clients, through touch, breathing, stretching and massage.

By the end of the course you will have developed the confidence and knowledge needed to treat pregnant women right throughout their journey into motherhood. You will also have become part of the NurtureLife® network and have a team of practitioners around you to support you and refer clients to if required.

Our Advanced 1-Day courses offer you the opportunity to delve deeper into the benefits of massage during and after labour.

Post Natal Massage. Post natal massage promotes relaxation and relieves anxiety, having a positive effect to ease postpartum blues. This workshop will show you how to support and nurture a new mother using post natal massage.

WORKSHOP A: Post Natal Massage
How do we support and nurture a new mum using post natal massage?
The excitement of a new baby to welcome into the world can fill a mother and father with a roller coaster of emotions.
Taking the time to adjust to this great responsibility can seem overwhelming, but filled with excitement. Post natal massage promotes relaxation and relieves anxiety having a positive effect to ease postpartum blues.
The mother’s body will be adjusting and undergoing many changes. There are many considerations in supporting and nurturing a new mum and baby.
We will focus on:
• Massage after a natural birth
• Massage after caesarean
• Massage to rebalance the body
• Massage to relieve tension from breast feeding
• Simple post natal exercises

WORKSHOP B: Partner Training & Massage for Labour
Learn how to demonstrate massage techniques for labour. Massage can be used during the birth, to make it easier and more comfortable for the mother.
A well prepared partner offering positive support during labour will assist in maintaining relaxation and focus for the labouring mum. In this workshop we will learn how to equip our clients to utilise massage for labour.
We will focus on:
• How and when to recommend massage for labour
• How to prepare a partner massage session
• Specific massage techniques for labour
• Focus on the latent first stage of labour and points to support the labouring woman.
